I honestly wasn't sure what to expect when I picked this up, but Smuggling With Jesus completely blew me away. Going from a sheltered, orthodox upbringing in Canada straight into the deep end of 1970s international drug trafficking sounds like a plot from a movie, but Hank Cooper’s writing makes every wild moment feel intensely real. He doesn't hold back or try to glorify the lifestyle; instead, you get a gritty, unflinching look at what it actually takes to survive 15 years in that world—from dodging military coups in South America to getting caught in the Florida Keys and navigating the Golden Triangle. What really hooked me, though, was the contrast between his background and the crazy situations he found himself in. The tension is relentless, and you spend half the book wondering how on earth he made it out alive to tell the story. If you like true crime, wild travel memoirs, or just crazy real-life adventure stories, give this a read. It’s an absolute ride!
